“Healthy W. Koala” Has 17 years experience and is looking for a new role as a Senior Engineering Manager / Director - Product in San Francisco Bay Area or Remote.

I'm an empathetic, product-minded engineering leader. I'm looking for a senior or director level management role in a smaller mission-driven tech company.

Previously, I've managed engineers and managers as a director for a top 10 startup, been both Founder and CTO of consumer and SAAS startups, and written a lot of code—primarily in a web development context (python/JS/etc).

I think the aspect of my path that I'm most proud of is the people that I've supported in doing great work, growing, and being happy while doing so.

  • Held a Director Level role in a company 100-500 people
  • Primarily works in startup environments
  • One or more companies is well known in its industry
  • Played a material role in the beginnings of one or more companies
  • Primarily works full-time roles
  • Open to contract/advisement roles

Notable Projects

  • Built an open source reading tool that is now used in over a billion devices - baked into Safari, Firefox, Amazon Kindle, and others.
  • Managed ~50 team members over the years to grow & happily ship useful work
  • Oversaw development of an in-house feature flagging and A/B testing framework including concept, architecture, deployment, and validation.

Ideal Company

I'm most interested in mission-driven organizations - smaller is ideal but I'm open to large orgs as well. I prefer environments where folks are motivated by the work itself and its importance.

I prefer a leadership team that is focused around support, growth, and bringing out the best in people over the long term.

I'm open to many industries, but particularly excited about communities, reading, the open web, space, education, and indie gaming. I'm not interested in businesses where advertising is the revenue model.

East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley/etc) would be particularly appealing to me.

If this sounds close to your company, I'd love to hear from you!
